Feral Rabbits
Rabbits are a containment control pest animal in the Marlborough District Council’s Regional Pest Management Strategy.
Occupiers are required to maintain rabbit populations on their property at or below the maximum allowable level on the Modified McLean Scale, as defined in the Strategy.
Council Biosecurity staff carry out annual Population Monitoring Data monitoring on 12 established night count routes throughout Marlborough. This data is updated annually with some of the data running back to 1989 when the first night counts were established.
Feral Rabbit Newsletter
A biannual newsletter (April and August) has commenced circulation to those within historically rabbit-prone areas of Marlborough. The newsletter contains the latest information relating to rabbit control, current population trends (April 2011 issue), results of RHD immunity testing (August 2011 issue) and general information to assist landholders in the battle against the resurgent rabbit.
