Possum

Possums are a containment control pest animal in the Marlborough District Council’s Regional Pest Management Strategy.

The Strategy prohibits the release or spread of possums onto offshore islands in the Marlborough Sounds.

Possums are also deemed an ecological pest threat in Marlborough and while there is no legal obligation for landowners to undertake formal control, voluntary control is encouraged. Council and DOC staff can provide you with information on the best ways to control possums.
