Geological Model of Wairau Plain, Marlborough

Introduction

The aim of this report "Geological model of Wairau Plain, Marlborough", was to review and update uderstanding of the Wairau Plain sedimentray geology. Since this was last done in the early 1980s, several thousand new wells have been drilled.

Understanding the rock formations which host our aquifers is central to managing local groundwater resources. The central tool in the review process was a 3D numerical model which provided a unique tool for reinterpreting the stratigraphy.
