Rules for Drilling New Wells

digging a wellIf you are looking at drilling a well and taking water from an aquifer, please see Resource Consents for any rules or requirements that may apply to your situation.

Or, if you would like to view the rules for the drilling, construction or alteration of a bore then they can be found in the Resource Management Act section. From here you will be able to request a copy of the rules.

Well Water Quality

Taking a sample of well waterIf you have drilled a new well then you may be required by Council to take a water sample to test it is suitable to drink. This is sometimes necessary for subdivision consents, particularly in certain areas where groundwater quality is known to be poor.

If not, then you may be interested in checking out the quality of your water. Council does not test individual wells, so you will need to contact a commercial laboratory (See YellowPages.co.nz for Laboratories in Marlborough). See the Water Potability factsheet for information on what you may want to sample for.
