Sewerage

  • How do I get my septic tank cleaned?

Septic tanks cleaning is a task that needs to be undertaken by the owner; Council does not provide this service. See Septic Tank Services in Yellow Pages.

  • What can I do if sewage is flowing from a manhole in the street?

Keep children away from the area. Phone Council on phone 03 520 7400 (24-hour service) and we will send a staff member to investigate the problem and disinfect the area as soon as possible.

  • What can I do if sewage is flowing from my gully trap?

Keep children away from the area. A registered drainlayer from the Yellow Pages® should be called to clear any blockage. If the drainlayer finds that the blockage is within the public sewer, then the drainlayer will contact Council to clear and remove the blockage and clean up any affected areas. If the blockage is in the private system then resident is responsible for all costs. If the blockage is in Council sewer then Council will pay, unless the problem was generated from the private property, eg; flushing of nappies, in which case Council will recover the costs from the resident.
  • Where do the drains go around my house?

House drainage plans that have been submitted to Council are held on the property file associated with that dwelling and can be viewed at Council offices. Alternatively, contact Council on 03 520 7400 - it may be possible to fax or email you a copy.

  • Where is the sewer located in the road

The plans showing sewer main and service connection locations are available at Council offices. You can call in to the office or phone 03 520 7400 - it may be possible to fax or email you a copy.
