Freedom Camping

Welcome to Marlborough

Camping our Way Love NZ. Marlborough District Council welcomes all campers to Marlborough - a region of beauty where water, wine and wilderness combine to create a relaxing escape.

A Freedom Camping policy has been put in place to ensure both the safety of campers and the protection of this beautiful environment.

Council encourages travellers and campers to use the vast range of available camping grounds and other accommodation facilities. However, we appreciate that some of our visitors prefer to stay in unregistered camp grounds.

We ask you to assist us in the protection of our environment so that it can be enjoyed for many generations by following these rules:

Campervan. Only camping in a self contained vehicle is allowed outside of registered camping grounds so there are no detrimental effects on the environment by discarded rubbish and human waste.
Overnight camping may occur on any council-controlled public land, apart from the prohibited areas for a maximum of two nights in any calendar month.
Toilet and greywater to be disposed of in approved dumping sites. Both toilet and greywater is to be disposed of at one of many council-approved dumping sites.
Dispose of rubbish in appropriate manner. To dispose of rubbish an approved refuse collection bag is required; they can be disposed of at a Council refuse transfer station or by putting it out for collection on a scheduled rubbish collection day. For bags and collection schedules please contact the nearest council office.
Please leave camping site clean and tidy. Please leave the camping site in a clean and tidy state for others to enjoy.

Freedom Camping Kenepuru Heads1.

Please comply with Council officers. All overnight campers are asked to comply with a request from a council officer to move on.
