Picton Foreshore
This site is heavily used in summer. Situated in the heart of Picton, at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound, it is very popular with both tourists and locals. The average yearly rainfall is 1,500mm.
There are a large number of stormwater pipes to the bay, and at times stormwater is contaminated with sewage. This contributes significantly to the poor water quality. The Council monitors the situation and the public are notified when swimming is not recommended.
Suitability for Recreation Grade (SFRG)
