Waihopai at Craiglochart
The Waihopai river passes through Craiglochart at a site about 30 minutes' drive south west of Blenheim. The beach area is gravel and stones, and there are steep bush-covered hills surrounding the site.
The average yearly rainfall is 620mm. The site is used frequently in summer by overnight campers and day visitors including ferocious sandflies! Rainfall mainly affects the water quality by increasing the sediment load.
