Wairau at Wairau Rowing Club
The Wairau Rowing Club site is situated in Grovetown, north of Blenheim. The site is adjacent to the Grovetown Lagoon. The Wairau Rowing Club uses this part of the river regularly throughout the year. Whitebaiting and fishing are also popular activities.
The site is approximately 2 km downstream of the Spring Creek oxidation pond discharge and at times high numbers of faecal bacteria are present in the water.
Marlborough District Council monitors the oxidation pond discharge and also engineers a level of flow in the main river to maintain high dilution of the oxidation pond discharge water. The average yearly rainfall for the area is 650mm.
