Working for Marlborough District Council

Working for the Marlborough District Council has many benefits including a social club, quality office environment, ongoing training, health benefits and leave entitlements in excess of statutory requirements.

Our Workplace

Social Club

The social club brings staff together in a social atmosphere for Friday night drinks and other organised events, including mid-year and end of year celebrations.

Location

Our main office building is situated in the CBD, amongst the cafés and shops.  30 seconds is all it takes to be in town meeting friends and family for lunch.  Grab a book from our district library, a two-minute stroll away, and head back to our modern cafeteria or across the road to one of our premier gardens to soak up the midday sun while enjoying your lunch and a good read.

Bike/Walk

Blenheim is mostly flat in geography, which makes for easy biking and walking to work.  We provide you with a secure bike shed and showering facilities. Join the bunch ride that leaves from Council’s car park at 5.15 pm every Tuesday and Thursday.

Quality Office Environment

Our offices are modern and open plan.  We believe that this environment improves functionality and workflow, allowing for improved communication, productivity and effectiveness.

Our People and their Development

We are a diverse workforce who pride ourselves on providing a safe and healthy workplace.   As a Unitary Authority we can provide unique opportunities for our people to learn and grow across a wide range of functions.

Our organisation charter is "Staff Enjoying Working for the Marlborough District Council" and our values are Respect, Professionalism and Integrity.

Training and Development

Ongoing personal development is one of the greatest challenges we all face in our rapidly changing world.  At Council we encourage development and ongoing training and you will have the opportunity to take control of your own growth and skill enhancement, with our support.

Acknowledgement and Recognition

We like to acknowledge staff for tasks that are well done and for innovative approaches to work.

Our Benefits

Our wellness programme operates to enhance your financial security and wellbeing and to make you feel a valued member of staff.  Supporting you to be healthy and well is an important aspect of encouraging work-life balance.

We are committed to ensuring you work in an environment that meets all health and safety requirements, and most importantly, gets you home safe each day.  We are proud that we have ACC Tertiary Status for our Workplace Safety Practices.

We want to provide an attractive place to work and believe that our benefits as outlined below demonstrate our commitment to achieving this.

Flu Vaccinations

We provide a fully subsidised seasonal influenza vaccination to help protect you from known true seasonal flu strains.

Eye Care

If you are required to use VDU equipment in the normal course of your job Council will subsidise your prescribed glasses.

Employee Assistance

We provide a service that is designed as a confidential forum for you to discuss personal or work-related problems with someone who has been professionally trained to do so.

Health Insurance

If your health is compromised, we want you to have access to medical treatment quickly so you can get on with enjoying life.  We cover permanent staff for Accuro's Staffcare Health Insurance Plan.  You can also join your family or increase your level of cover at your own cost, taking advantage of the offer to cover pre-existing conditions.

Income Protection

Income protection insurance gives you peace of mind in knowing that the needs of your family will be met in the event of your sickness.  As a permanent member of staff you will receive cover which meets 75% of your salary to a maximum of $96,000 gross per annum.

Life Insurance

Life insurance provides peace of mind and cash when it is needed most.  We cover our permanent staff for an adequate level of life cover.

Workplace Savings Plan

At Council we believe that it’s important for our employees to have plans in place for their financial wellbeing.

We have structured our workplace savings plan to take advantage of the tax saving the government has provided and for this reason we have two separate plans to ensure that permanent staff receive the full benefit from the 5% subsidy that Council offers.

Our Leave Benefits

Annual Leave

For permanent staff our leave provisions are four/five weeks annual leave per annum in accordance with the Holidays Act 2003 and its amendments, or in the event of the period of employment being less than one year, a payment in lieu of annual holidays at the rate of 8%/10% of gross income for the period of employment.

Sick Leave

For permanent staff we provide up to 10 days' sick leave after 12 months of employment and a further 10 days for each completed year of employment thereafter.  Sick leave is cumulative over the whole of your service with us.
