DECLARATION OF RESULT OF BY-ELECTION
In accordance with section 86 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby declare the results for the Wairau/Awatere Ward by-election held on Friday 19 June 2009. I confirm that the official result was determined after the scrutiny of the roll was completed, the validity of all special votes was determined and all valid votes were counted.

The final absolute majority of votes (final quota) as determined at the last iteration was 1,884. (1 blank vote and 4 informal votes were recorded).
I therefore declare Peter JERRAM to be elected as the Councillor for the Wairau/Awatere Ward.
The Voter Return Percentage was 46.07% percent, being 3,766 voting papers.
