These elections will be conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001, and the Local Government Act 2002.

Nominations and Candidates
Nominations closed at 12 noon on Friday 20 August 2010. A list of the Positions and Candidates is available to view.

Getting Enrolled
Those eligible to vote at the elections are all resident electors and all non-resident ratepayer electors whose names appear on the Electoral Roll when it closes on 20 August 2010.
The Preliminary (check-it) Electoral Roll will be available for public inspection at the following locations from Friday 23 July 2010 to Friday 20 August 2010:
- District Administration Building, 15 Seymour Street, Blenheim
- Picton Service Delivery Centre, 67 High Street, Picton
- Marlborough District Library, Cnr Arthur & Seymour Streets, Blenheim
- Havelock Library, Main Road, Havelock
- Rai Valley Library, c/- Rai Valley Area School, Rai Valley
- Seddon School Community Library, Redwood Street, Seddon
- Wairau Valley School Community Library, Wairau Valley
- Ward School Community Library, c/- Ward School, Duncan Street, Ward
- Post Shop Blenheim, Main Street, Blenheim
- Post Shop Picton, Mariners Mall, High Street, Picton
- Post Shop Springlands, Springlands Mall, Blenheim
- Redwood Village Post Centre, Weld St, Redwoodtown, Blenheim (Redwood Supervalue)
Residential Electors
All parliamentary electors are automatically enrolled on local authority electoral rolls as 'Residential Electors' at the address where they live. A confirmation advice will be issued to all parliamentary electors by the Electoral Enrolment Centre during July 2010.
Any alterations to the Residential Electors' Roll (e.g. change of address etc) should be made by:
- Completing the appropriate form at any Post Shop
- Telephoning 0800 367 656
- Accessing the Electoral Enrolment Centre website on www.elections.org.nz
Ratepayer Electors (non-resident)
If a person is on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll in one district and pays rates on a property in another district, this person may be eligible to be enrolled as a non-resident Ratepayer Elector.
A firm, company, corporation or society paying rates on a property, may nominate one of its members or officers as a ratepayer elector (providing the nominated person resides outside of the district).
Non-resident Ratepayer Enrolment forms can be obtained by; downloaded the PDF below, emailing election@marlborough.govt.nz, visiting Council Customer Services Centres in Blenheim or Picton, or by phoning 03 520 7400.

Electoral System
The Single Transferable Voting (STV) electoral system will be used for the Marlborough District Council and the Nelson/Marlborough District Health Board elections.
