Summary of the Blenheim Town Centre Project
The Blenheim Town Centre Report has been developed by Urbanismplus Ltd through close consultation with Council and the community. Hard copies of the full strategy are available from Council offices and libraries.
Some of the key ideas so far are presented within this summary and include: the relocation of the Marlborough District Library and art gallery to Queen Street, developing the riverside, creating more green spaces within the CBD and including the i-site as part of the planned new Alfred Street.
Background
At the end of 2008, Council contracted Urbanismplus with the task of producing a strategy aimed at achieving prosperity, superior community benefits and quality environmental and built urban outcomes within the Blenheim town centre.
How did they get here?
In developing the Report, Kobus Mentz and his expert team undertook extensive consultation with the public, local business owners, community groups and Council. Thanks must go to everyone who attended the workshops and meetings and provided ideas and feedback. The information gained from these sessions has helped Urbanismplus to develop the ideas seen here.
Project Scope
The project mainly looks at the Blenheim town centre and the surrounding area including the Taylor River, Grove Road and the Railway Station. In forming the report, the relationship with the surrounding areas which link to the town centre have been taken into account.
