Northern Marlborough

The new Picton waterfront from above Shelly Beach. This northern Marlborough project follows on from similar work in 2009, from which an urban design programme is being developed for Central Blenheim, along with an urban growth strategy for Blenheim and the other townships in south Marlborough.

This southern Marlborough project, coupled with the northern Marlborough exercise, will make a significant contribution to the review of the Marlborough Regional Policy Statement and Marlborough’s resource management plans.

The consultancy firm of Urbanism+ has been engaged to lead this project, working closely with the Council’s technical, science and planning staff, as well as the likes of Marlborough Roads and, importantly, the communities of interest.

The Marlborough Growth and Development project is intended to provide a comprehensive, integrated approach to urban growth and development to guide strategic investment decisions by Council, individuals, and other groups.

The Council will develop policies, which are informed by the outcomes of this project, to be able to direct the growth and development of Marlborough’s townships.
