Biosecurity (Pest Management)

Environmental

Plant Pests | Animal Pests | Ecological Threats | Bovine TB

The Marlborough District Council carries out pest management to protect the economic and ecological sustainability of the district. Its responsibility for pest management is set out in a policy framework prescribed under the council's Regional Policy Statement.

The Biosecurity Act 1993 enables the Council to monitor and determine the presence and impacts of pests and to prepare and notify regional pest management strategies. A particular pest can only be classified through a statutory process outlined in the Biosecurity Act, by formulating either a National or Regional Pest Management Strategy.

Regional Pest Management Strategy

The Council currently has in place a Regional Pest Management Strategy for the Marlborough region. This Strategy became operative on 1 July 2007.  The Strategy will remain in force for a period of five years.  A free copy of the Strategy is available from the Council's office, Seymour Street, Blenheim or by phoning the Customer Services Offices.

Ths new Strategy replaces the September 2001 Strategy.
