Riverflow Graphs | Riverflow Table | Riverflow Data Help

As well as maintaining a network to monitor and predict floods, Marlborough MDC hydrologistDistrict Council hydrologists hydrology@marlborough.govt.nz monitor rainfall, river flows and groundwater levels, analyse data and provide information and advice to groups both inside and outside the council.

The council maintains a network of river sites using electronic technology. Data from some sites is transmitted direct to the council's Blenheim office.

The collection of data and subsequent analysis allows information to be used for other projects such as the determination of low flows in rivers for resource consents, water allocation, in-stream habitat surveys and groundwater recharge investigations.

Current river level data is available on-line through the menu at the left of your screen. A map showing the river flow monitoring sites can be used to display data from the various sites. Graphs and tables can be viewed by clicking on the map. Some data is also available from sites operated by NIWA and the Tasman District Council.

The rivers information displayed is received directly from the council's water level recorders via radio or cell phone. The on-line information is updated three times daily (1.00 am, 7.00 am and 7.00 pm) on weekdays and also at 1.00 pm on weekends.  Information is also updated more regularly during heavy rain and rapidly changing river conditions.  Information is provisional, as it has not been verified by on-site checks. At times, due to technical difficulties data may be incorrect or not completely up to date.

Caution should be exercised if using data for decisions that may concern public safety, or the conduct of business that involves monetary or operational consequences.
