The Marlborough Environment Awards Trust would like to thank the entrants, judges, sponsors and supporters for making the 2013 Awards such a success. We will be seeking entries for the next round of Awards in September 2014.

“Sound environmental management is good business”

The Marlborough Environment Awards are held every two years to showcase businesses, community projects and individuals who are going the extra mile for the environment.

The 2013 Marlborough Environment Awards were announced on 1 March, with the Mistletoe Bay Trust winning the Supreme Award for their Eco-Village in the Marlborough Sounds.

What do the Awards Offer?

The Awards showcase efforts in Marlborough to enhance and protect the environment and use resources and energy efficiently. It is an opportunity for entrants to share their knowledge and experience and get independent feedback from the judges on what they’re doing and what could be improved. Winners receive positive publicity and prizes worth $1,000 - $3,000.

The Field Days at the winning properties are a highlight of the Awards. They are relaxed gatherings that spread the word about what the winner is achieving and provide inspiration for members of the public.

Schools Award

A Schools Environment Award runs alongside the main awards and is open to all schools in Marlborough. The 2012/2013 winner was Springlands School with their project focusing on improving the Taylor River in Blenheim.

About the Awards

The Marlborough Environment Awards were established in 1997 to celebrate and showcase businesses or community projects that are good for the environment.
The Awards are held every two years and are run by a charitable trust. Trust members include the Marlborough District Council, Federated Farmers, The Marlborough Environment Centre, the Winegrowers’ Association and the Marlborough Forest Industry Association. The Department of Conservation is also closely involved in running the awards.
The Awards are funded by the Marlborough District Council and local sponsors.
