Picton Ferry Terminal update

  • Date 8:00 AM Wednesday 29 April 2020
  • Type COVID-19

KiwiRail is in the early stages of planning to replace the current fleet of three ferries with two new, large rail-enabled ferries from 2024.

The current ferries need to be replaced due to their age. Their replacement is also needed to accommodate future growth in passenger numbers and freight volumes.

The proposed new Interislander terminal building will service rail and ferry passengers. The terminal will offer a modern customer experience with state-of-the-art check-in. The new wharf will be 280 metres long, compared to the current wharves that are 160 metres and 186 metres long. Other works include construction of a seawall and new jetties.

Unfortunately as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak a series of open days on the proposed changes to the Picton Ferry terminal and surrounding area have been cancelled. However, KiwiRail and Port Marlborough are keen to receive your feedback.
