Marlborough’s Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) Welfare function is up and running and ready to support the regional response to COVID-19, led by the Ministry of Health and the Nelson-Marlborough District Health Board.

CDEM Group Manager Brian Paton advises if people have symptoms that could be related to COVID-19 they should call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

While most people in self-isolation will be able to look after themselves with the support of family, whānau and friends, the welfare team will be there as a backup to support people who need additional support such as emergency accommodation or basic supplies and are unable to manage those needs through their usual sources.

Services

The Welfare Team are here to help people who don’t have anyone else to assist with shopping for those who are unable to shop themselves. For example those who are:

  • In self isolation and can’t get to the shops.
  • Unable to access online shopping
  • Don’t have anyone they can ask help.

There’s no cost to the individual and while we can’t get everything that people want (e.g. named brands) we will do our best to provide what they need. We place grocery orders once a day and collect them about 4:00 in the afternoon for delivery.
