This State of the Environment Report provides a snapshot of how well we are doing as a region. The report looks at the pressure on different resources, the response from Council and the community, and the current condition of each domain: atmosphere, land, freshwater and coast, along with the state of our regional infrastructure. We also set out future responses and provide links to websites where more detailed information can be found.
There are many success stories within these pages, showcasing the good work done by many organisations and individuals since the last report in 2008. However, we have our challenges too, with soil conservation, climate extremes, water quality, natural hazards, biodiversity loss, invasive species, overfishing, habitat loss and pollution of coastal waters creating significant stress on ecosystems.
Together we can tackle these issues as best we can. There is strength in collaboration and working together to find solutions. At the end of the report, there is a section called 'play your part', offering tips and suggestions on how you can get involved.
