The following information sheet shows how Council, Ngāti Kuia, the Department of Conservation and the wider community are coming together for Te Hoiere Pelorus Project – an ambitious approach to look after the whole catchment from the mountains to the sea (ki uta ki tai).
General project information
In July 2021, LEARNZ took a field trip to the Te Hoiere Awa and spoke to some of the people involved in the restoration work.

A geomorphological evaluation of three Nga Awa Rivers was carried out in 2021. The Te Hoiere restoration project was lucky to be included in this study.
