Food Business Information
Marlborough has a busy restaurant and café scene to serve locals and visitors alike. Food safety is paramount to reduce the risk posed if food is not prepared in a safe manner. When taking over or starting a new food business, it is important that you are aware of the rules and regulations that will apply to your operation.
The Food Act 2014 applies to everyone who grows or produces food for commercial sale, whether it is sold from a shop, at a market stall or on the internet.
All food businesses must register their activity under the appropriate risk based regime; Food Control Plan (FCP) or National Programme (NP). Some operators may be exempt from registration but must follow safe food practices to ensure food remains safe and suitable for sale.
