Speed on Rural Roads

Many of our rural and Sounds roads are hilly, winding and gravelled with narrow unforgiving lanes that pose challenges to even the most experienced drivers. Car crashes on rural roads make up a high proportion of serious road crashes in Marlborough, and speed limits need to change to better reflect the safety of the environment.

It is important speed limits on our rural network are set in the same way for consistency – so that a motorist driving across our district finds all rural road speed limits set the same.

For speed limits to be effective, they need to be underpinned by community support and understanding.

That’s why we want to hear from you.
