Information relating to the August weather event in Marlborough
The proposed expansion of the kerbside collection service presents an opportunity for Council to review and improve its rubbish and recycling service for people living in rural areas.
Under the proposal the current coin operated skips and rural community recycling bins will be replaced by remote transfer stations.
Remote transfer stations offer rubbish and recycling services. Each location will have a bank of wheelie bins for recycling and a bank of wheelie bins for rubbish. A separate skip will also be provided for the collection of colour sorted glass.
In general terms, the remote transfer stations will be established on an area of hardstanding and be enclosed by appropriate fencing. The community will access the remote transfer stations via gates.
The remote transfer stations will be unmanned and serviced on a planned basis.
Rubbish will be collected at the remote transfer stations and transported to the regional landfill. Recycling collected at the transfer stations is transported to the Resource Recovery Centre.
The stations would be established during 2023 and 2024 and would be operational from 1 July 2024.
The new remote transfer stations will be paid for from existing budgets and funded through a general geographic rate.
This geographic rate is approximately $70 including GST per year.
No, the remote transfer station sites will be funded through rates so there is no user pay or coin charge for these locations.
