Official Council Rubbish Bags
Kerbside rubbish collection is provided in Picton and Blenheim. Each July a rubbish bag voucher for a pack of 52 official Council rubbish bags is posted to property owners.
These can be redeemed at the following outlets, for approximately six weeks from when the vouchers are posted.
- Marlborough Mitre 10 Mega
- Blenheim New World
- Countdown (Blenheim, Redwoodtown, Springlands)
- Picton Fresh Choice

The vouchers can be redeemed at any time at Council's Customer Service Centres in Blenheim and Picton.
Additional official Council rubbish bags

Packs of 10 bags can be purchased from:

Cost of service
There are three parts to the cost of this service:
- Supply of official Council rubbish bags (10%)
- Collection of full official Council rubbish bags from the kerbside in Blenheim and Picton (60%)
- Disposal cost of the official Council rubbish bags and their contents at the landfill (30%)
The costs are recovered through a targeted rate' against Blenheim and Picton properties that receive the service. See pricing of official Council rubbish bags using the link below.
Refunds
Some properties may not need 52 bags each year, so rather than accumulating a stockpile you can apply to Council for a refund. Simply return any unwanted vouchers to Council offices in Blenheim or Picton. Any approved refunds will be credited to your rates account. Refunds cover the cost of bag supply and landfill disposal. Collection costs are not refunded, as the vehicles continue to cover the whole route regardless of how many bags are uplifted. The current refund value, per voucher, is $35 including GST.
Each year we throw out approximately 750,000 official Council rubbish bags. This adds up to some 4,000 tons of rubbish. What are you throwing out? Can it be recycled? The following chart shows what is in the average official Council rubbish bag.
