Mayoral Relief Fund update
There have been three rounds of allocation of the Mayoral Relief Fund so far, with more than half of the funding already distributed.
The fund was set up by former Mayor John Leggett after the destructive August weather event. It was boosted when Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern visited Marlborough in September to see the damage first-hand - she announced a $100,000 Government contribution to the fund.
The fund’s aim is to help people suffering personal and emotional hardship, particularly those hit by slips and damage to property. Priority is given where there is a financial burden and the essentials of daily life are needed. It does not cover costs already covered by insurance or other subsidies.
The Mayoral Relief Fund committee is aware of damaged homes whose owners have not yet applied for funding; they are encouraged to come forward while funds are available. Now is the time to get applications in for consideration before Christmas - get your application in by 2 December.
