Marlborough Emergency Management remains activated and continues to monitor the impacts of the weather event for Marlborough, as significant rainfall and flooding affect the region.
Marlborough Roads crews continue to inspect roads, monitor flood levels and clear debris across the network, when conditions allow. Surface flooding remains widespread throughout the region, including on state highways.
Incident Controller Chris Faulls said road conditions had deteriorated today and residents should avoid travel wherever possible.
“There is significant surface flooding, slips, fallen trees and high river levels across the district. Conditions remain dangerous and we strongly urge people to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely essential.
“If you do need to travel, drive with extreme caution, obey road closures and be prepared for conditions to change quickly.”
Queen Charlotte Drive is now closed between Havelock and Picton because of multiple slips and flooding at the Havelock causeway. State Highway 1 is also closed between Ward and Waipara.
There are also many local road closures across Marlborough, including Northbank Road from Fabians Valley Road, Tyntesfield Road, Old Renwick Road between St Leonards Road and SH6, and Waikakaho Road where trees have fallen and blocked access.
Residents are reminded that there remains a high risk of slips, flooding, fallen trees, power outages and communication disruptions while the severe weather continues.
Council’s hydrologists, engineers and the Marlborough Emergency Management team are continuing to monitor the situation closely. People are encouraged to stay up to date through Marlborough District Council Facebook page, website, Antenno app, as well as NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and MetService channels.
