Work on the Market Street Revamp in Blenheim’s town centre is progressing well with Stage 2 set to begin on Monday 10 August.
Council is delivering both stages of the revitalisation project as a single, coordinated construction programme to maximise efficiencies, reduce duplication and shorten the overall construction timeframe.
Stage 1 works began in early July with a road closure between Arthur Street and Wynen Street. This will remain in place until September.
Council’s Project and Contract Manager Maighan Watson said the commencement of Stage 2 would see Market Street north closed to all vehicles between High Street and Alfred Street from Monday 10 August through to late November.
Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project and emergency services will always be accommodated. Road closures are in place 24/7.
Ms Watson said Council and Fulton Hogan appreciated the understanding and patience shown by businesses and the public.
“This is the most significant revitalisation of the town centre in almost 30 years. Businesses are open and accessible, and we encourage the community to continue supporting them throughout the project.
“Fulton Hogan has also made wheelchairs available for mobility-impaired visitors, with the site team able to assist people navigating the work area,” she said.
Fulton Hogan is operating split day and night shifts, allowing as much work as possible which is directly outside shopfronts to be completed in the evenings.
