Water has been turned off to properties in the Seddon and Seaview areas while repairs are made to a supply pipe.
A pipe has cracked in Marama Road and a team is at the site now, hoping to be able to restore supply by 7pm.
Properties which may lose their water supply are those which rely on the Blind River, Lions Back, Wheelers Hill or Flaxbourne reservoirs.
The public water tap, outside Seddon School, is available for anyone without water.
Portaloos have been supplied to Seddon School so that it can stay open.
Council Operations and Maintenance engineer Stephen Rooney suggests residents in the Seddon, Seaview and Awatere area conserve water today but says every effort is being made to restore their supply by tonight.
