Pipped by the Post at Environment Awards
A Marlborough company that revolutionised fencing by transforming recycled plastic waste into sturdy fence posts, won the supreme title at the 2025 Port Marlborough-Marlborough Environment Awards.
Future Post, founded by Jerome Wenzlick, which also won the wine industry category at the awards ceremony last week, beat 29 other entrants across eight categories to take out top honours.
The business, based in an industrial park in Burleigh, transforms more than 4,500 tonnes of New Zealand plastic waste a year into high-performance fence and vineyard posts as well as landscaping material.
Judges were struck by Mr Wenzlick’s creativity and determination, Future Posts' dedication to sourcing all materials in New Zealand, the company’s partnership with leaders in the wine industry, its continual product development and its strong emphasis on staff safety.
“Future Post is an inspiring example of Kiwi innovation at its best,” the judges said. “They’ve taken a pressing environmental issue – plastic waste – and turned it into a profitable, scalable solution that benefits multiple sectors, including agriculture, viticulture and infrastructure. Their dedication to continuous improvement, environmental responsibility and community engagement sets a new benchmark for sustainable enterprise in New Zealand.”
The Marlborough Environment Awards are held every two years and honour individuals, businesses and community groups committed to sustainability, innovation and environmental stewardship.
The awards, held this year at the ASB Theatre, are managed by a charitable trust and supported by Port Marlborough, Council, DOC, and numerous local sponsors.
