Marlborough Mayor John Leggett says organisers at Yealands Classic Fighters Omaka Airshow did a phenomenal job in ensuring this year’s airshow was a success in the face of so many challenges.
“They did wonders at the site given the heavy rain in the run up to the event and they managed to get good numbers through the gates despite fears about the weather and all the disruption to SH1 and the usual Christchurch visitor flow. It all confirms that this is now firmly established as a brilliant event for Marlborough.”
An economic assessment report on the airshow (prepared in 2013) showed that
- every dollar spent by a local business or individual in connection with the airshow brings a return to the region of $6.31
- visitors stay on average two nights in Marlborough
- 88% of visitors indicated they would return.More than 40% of airshow visitors said they’d heard about the event from someone else – showing what word-of-mouth publicity can do for a good event.
