Blenheim youngsters made it plain they loved the chance to try out a northern hemisphere Christmas pastime even if it was during a very warm Marlborough summer.
Almost 1,400 skaters strapped on their skates to try out the ice rink, set up by the Council for four days in December as a CBD promotion during the run-up to Christmas. The company which hires out the artificial rink was happy to see it attract more than double their usual crowds.
The rink hire was funded by Council’s Sport and Recreation Community Activity Fund with admission by gold coin donation – accessible to all and meeting the cost of overnight security.
The rink proved a winner with families and young teens, with overwhelmingly positive feedback. It is hoped the rink can return again next year.
