It will now be easier to enjoy a picnic at picturesque Broughton Bay in the Marlborough Sounds.
The coastal environment can be hard on furniture and the old picnic tables were looking well past their use by date.
Earlier this year the community applied to the Council’s Community Projects Fund to replace the picnic tables and this was agreed to by the Small Townships Sub-committee.
June Ballagh from Broughton Bay said the new tables have created a fabulous community and public asset that will be appreciated by everyone.
“They are expected to be well used over the summer by locals and visitors, although the winter weather hasn’t deterred this family from Wellington enjoying them,” she said.
Council’s Community Programme Co-ordinator, Adi James said Council receives a number of applications from small communities, particularly in the Sounds, where a small project like this can make a big difference to the use and enjoyment of open public spaces.
