Tuia 250 - 20 days until Marlborough welcomes the flotilla

The Tuia 250 flotilla arrives into Waitohi/Picton harbour on Friday 22 November and we’d like to see Marlburians line the beach from 10.00 am to welcome the crews as they come ashore.

It will be the view of a lifetime as the three Waka Hourua (double hulled sailing waka) approach from Mabel Island, alongside the Spirit of Adventure and HMB Endeavour replica.

Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kuia and Te Atiawa waka will be out on the water together for the first time, to greet the Tuia 250 Flotilla.

Make your own welcome banner and join the kapa haka groups in welcoming the crews that have come from Tahiti, Australia and across the Pacific to be here. Join the ukulele players by singing the lovely Rangitāne o Wairau version of Ko Te Waipounamu - take a look at the video here:

Ko Te Waipounamu

Maranga mai ki runga

Ē ngā iwi o te motu ē tau nei

Kaua ē tukua

Kei ngaro te whenua

Ē ngā iwi o te motu

Haere mai

Maranga Te Waipounamu

Pōwhiritia ngā iwi

Te reo karanga

Te reo pōwhiri

Ē ngā iwi o te motu

Haere mai

Stay for the official civic ceremony which starts at midday, and will welcome the 150 plus crew members from the flotilla to our shores. In the evening, take the family for a stroll along the foreshore to see the mesmerising 3D animation and light installation on the War Memorial, sponsored by Interislander.
