A draft policy has been developed to provide guidance and a consistent approach to the management of trees on parks and reserves, cemeteries and berms on urban streets. The policy covers all aspects of tree management from planting to removal. It highlights the benefits of trees but also identifies the challenges in looking after them.
Guidance on managing vegetation on private land is included but this is limited to where vegetation overhangs public places and where heritage or notable trees are present.
