The Council’s Rivers and Drainage section is working on maintaining the integrity of its stop banks along the true left bank of the lower Wairau River, with an aim to bring the stop bank’s design standards to that of a 100-year flood event.
One of these sections is labelled as the MacDonald Reach (marked in yellow on the map), which runs along the southern side of the Wairau Bar road, finishing just before the Marukoko drain.
The Council has been liaising with the known shareholders, local Iwi, Ministry of Justice (Māori Land Court), Heritage New Zealand, DOC and the Southern Pacific Archaeological Research Centre about these works, and would like to extend the notification to any other shareholders of the following four multiple-owned Māori land parcels:
1. Wairau Blk XII Part Sec 15
2. Wairau Blk XII Lot 2 DP 1235 PT Sec 25
3. Wairau Blk XII Lot 1 DP 1235 PT Sec 25
4. Wairau Blk XII Sec E
If you have any interest in these land parcels and would like to know more about the works, please contact Sam Philip.
