Retiring councillor: Jenny Andrews

The 150th anniversary of Marlborough and the completion of the ASB Theatre are highlights for Councillor Jenny Andrews.

For her, Council has been about people and how best to serve them.

“I first stood for council in 1998 and Mayor Gerald Hope asked me to be his deputy,” she said. “It was a steep learning curve. Mayor Alistair Sowman asked me to be his deputy when he was elected in 2004 and I remained there for nine years.”

Councillor Andrews spent much of her time on the Community Grants, Access and Mobility Committee and the Older Persons Forum.

“The Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall said that our Older Persons Forum was a model for New Zealand,” she said.

Councillor Andrews has always enjoyed the citizenship ceremonies and is proud seeing new citizens settle into Marlborough.

She praised the invaluable efforts of Council staff who helped her during her time on Council.
