Variation 4: Road Stopping Rezoning
Marlborough District Council proposes to change the proposed Marlborough Environment Plan (PMEP) to apply zoning to areas where road stopping has been completed.
The three locations (and area extent) that form this variation are:
- 2282 Queen Charlotte Drive (0.0080ha)
- 62 Alma Street (0.0012ha)
- 7 Herbert Street (0.0039ha)
Prior to the notification of this variation, these sites were subject to Section 342 Local Government Act 1974 which provides for the stopping and closing of roads. Schedule 10 of the Act lists the conditions a council must comply with to undertake the road stopping. The road stopping is publicly advertised, relevant signage erected at the site and information made available for inspection at Council offices. The road stopping is reported to the Assets and Services Committee for their approval. If no objections are received then a public notice is issued declaring the road stopped and the land can be sold and, as is the case with the three sites subject to this variation, amalgamated into the adjoining land.
Reports, hearing details and other related information will be posted on the hearing portal as they become available.
Submissions closed on 11 April 2023. These submissions will be summarised and the availability of the summary publicly notified. This will also open the further submission period. If you are a submitter, we will notify you when the further submission period starts. If you are not a submitter, but would like to know when the further submission period commences, you can either keep an eye on the local newspapers or on Council’s website for the public notice or alternatively contact variations@marlborough.govt.nz if you would like to receive an email notification.
