Environmental compliance and monitoring
Marlborough District Council (MDC) is committed to fostering sustainable development in the area by managing the use of natural resources.
We are tasked with ensuring adherence to environmental laws and regulations.
To mitigate the environmental effects of activities, we employ a range of tools, including regulations and resource consents as outlined in the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).
Our Environmental Compliance and Monitoring team plays a crucial role in ensuring that resource users comply with our guidelines, utilising monitoring, education, investigations, and enforcement to achieve this goal.
What we do:
The Incident and Response Team investigates potential violations of the RMA and bylaws. When a breach is confirmed, enforcement action may be necessary against those responsible, utilizing the enforcement tools provided by the RMA or the Local Government Act 2002.
The Monitoring Team oversees various activities governed by the RMA, ensuring adherence to National Environmental Standards, planning regulations, and resource consent requirements.
