How do I apply for a role?
All our current vacancies are advertised on our careers page and all applications need to be submitted online. You will need to Sign in or Create an account. Once you have identified a job that matches your skills and experience, simply click 'Apply'. You can ‘Remember Job’ too by selecting the Star.
Go to the Sign in or Create an account page
You will be required to upload your CV/resume and we recommend a cover letter too. As part of the application process, you will answer some questions so that we can learn more about you in relation to the job you have applied for.
Why can’t I login on the website?
There are four main reasons this happens:
- You have already registered as a user with the same email address. Select ‘forgot my password’ and a link and access code will be sent to your email address. Click on the link or copy and paste the link into a new browser window and enter the new access code when prompted.
- Your email address may already be taken by another candidate, which means you need to create a new one. This often happens when family members have a shared email address.
- Check that your username and password is entered correctly. Remember, usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.
- Your password does not fulfil the requirements. Passwords need to be at least six characters long and must contain a mix of numbers and letters.
Can I apply for more than one job at a time?
Yes of course, there is no limit to the number of vacancies you can apply for. However, there will be a record shown on your profile of all the jobs you've applied for.
Can I post/ deliver/ email my application directly? Why does the council only accept electronic applications?
All applications should be completed online through our website. The online application contains mandatory declarations and may also include additional questions to support your application.
If you have no access to a computer or smartphone, you can visit your local library where there are computers available for public use.
We desire electronic applications through our web-based system, as this allows us to quickly and accurately assess your skills and experience for suitable positions. To be able to assess each person fairly against other candidates, we need all applicants to follow the same procedure.
How can I see the jobs that I have applied for?
When you log in to your profile, under the ‘Applications’ heading, you will see your history and status regarding any application(s) you have made.
What if I am a former employee and want to apply for a job?
You will need to create a new profile or login as a regular applicant and complete the application process.
Who sees my application once it has been received?
Your application will be treated with confidentiality and in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act, the Local Government Act and the Public Records Act. The only person(s) to see your details will be members of our recruitment team, the hiring manager and the selected panel members/any other relevant managers involved in the role(s) you have applied for.
Your information is entered into our system confidentially and cannot be accessed by unauthorised staff.
I would like to apply for a role that has closed. What do I do?
We are unable to accept late applications.
We recommend that you register for vacancy notification emails. This will ensure that you are notified when a vacancy is advertised on our careers site. This should give you ample opportunity to consider the roles on offer and apply online prior to the closing date.
What does this job pay?
Each position within Council falls into a certain salary band depending on the grade of the job. The salary expectations will be displayed in the advertisement.
When you are considering opportunities with MDC, please ensure you read the personal specification within the job description to see if your skills and experience match requirements of the role.
When will I find out about the outcome of my application?
The length of our recruitment process can vary for each advertised vacancy. Once all applications have been considered for the role, we will be in contact with you to provide an update on your application. You can see the status of your application in your profile.
When will my referees be contacted?
Referees will be contacted after your interview, and once we have your express permission to do so. Please check with your referees, that they are comfortable for us to contact them. We typically conduct our reference checks via phone call.
A relevant referee must be someone you have reported to (such as a team leader, supervisor or manager), who is able to comment on your performance and ideally be from a recent role.
I am unable to attend my interview.
It would be helpful if you could contact your MDC contact or hiring manager as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your arranged interview or would like to withdraw your application for a role. You can also administer this within your online profile.
The People and Capability team may still follow up to understand your reasons for withdrawing.
I don’t currently have a work visa. What do I need to know?
If you're applying from overseas without an eligible work visa, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. Before commencing the application process, we advise you to visit Immigration New Zealand or contact your nearest NZ immigration branch for further information on migrating to New Zealand and visa eligibility.
Is Council an accredited employer with Immigration?
Marlborough District Council is an accredited employer with Immigration New Zealand to enable us to search for people with skills that we haven’t been able to find in the New Zealand market. Please note that all offers of employment are subject to eligibility and the right to work and reside in NZ at all times.
