Giffords Road stop bank closed for river repair works

Public access is closed to the area directly behind the stop bank at the end of Giffords Road, near the Wairau River.

The closure is due to construction required as part of Wairau River flood damage repairs needed following the 2025 June/July weather events.

The repairs involve placing rock along a 300m stretch of the existing river channel to strengthen the edge of the berm.

Works are expected to continue until mid to late June.

Council and the contractor on site appreciate the public’s understanding while these urgent works are carried out.
