The swearing-in ceremony took place in Council Chambers, with whanau and dignitaries.
The Youth Council is made up of 21 students from local colleges, who represent the views of Marlborough’s youth and have a voice into Council through Mayor Nadine Taylor and councillors Allanah Burgess and Jonathan Rosene, who all attend Youth Council meetings.
The Youth Council have delegation for budget allocation, undertake youth consultations, have input in the Long Term Plan and hold events such as those planned for Youth Week in May.
Marlborough Boys’ College principal John Kendel, who attended the ceremony, praised the dedicated rangatahi for being the leaders of tomorrow.
“Mā mua ka kite a muri, mā muri ka ora a mua - those who lead give sight to those who follow, those who follow give life to those who lead,” he said. “Good leaders create good communities, and it is a group of young leaders who let their actions speak for themselves.”
