Funding criteria
Each year, Catchment Care will focus on and prioritise a particular Catchment. This year (2026-2027) our priority catchment is Wairau Valley Springs.

Whilst funding is prioritised towards the focus catchment and then other priority catchments (listed below), all landowners are encouraged to enquire.
Each Catchment Care project is unique and may require a combination of solutions. Generally, programme funds will be utilised in catchments to subsidise:
- Riparian fencing
- Native plants
- Correction of critical source areas (CSAs) e.g trough
relocation
Additional funding may be available via the Hill Country Erosion Fund to assist with tree planting, retirement fencing and reversion on erosion-prone hills.
