Winery waste compliance monitoring
The winery sector plays a significant role in the economy of Marlborough. However, the waste produced by wineries can adversely impact our environment. To encourage effective waste management practices, the Marlborough District Council (MDC) conducts yearly inspections of the wineries in the region.
Discharge of winery waste is permitted under the proposed Marlborough Environment Plan (PMEP) as long as it meets the necessary standards.
The discharge of winery waste that doesn't meet the allowed activity standards needs to obtain a resource consent for the discharge to take place.
