Bins to take recycling are now in place outside the fire-damaged Resource Recovery Centre.
Council’s Solid Waste Manager Mark Lucas said the bins were for cardboard, co-mingled plastics and glass.
“Users need to be aware that there may be disruptions and delays as we change out bins as we need to close the yard to do this for safety reasons due to trucks being in the area,” he said.
Mr Lucas thanked everyone for their continued patience and asked for tolerance going forward as staff dealt with a changing situation.
“Please be kind to our staff who are working in adverse conditions,” he said. “As people will appreciate, we are dealing with a rather fluid and challenging situation following this fire.”
Last Friday Council sent 300 m2 of Marlborough recycling to Eco Central in Christchurch which made a dent in the backlog which had accumulated since the fire.
Local company Renwick Transport has been contracted to take recycling south and will return with a backload of other products.
Mr Lucas said using trucks to take recycling south was a temporary solution. “We are still working on a plan to deal with all of our recycling locally by Christmas, “ he said.
All transfer stations, the Dump Shop, Green Waste Facility and the Hazardous Waste Centre are operating as normal.
