Marlborough’s Emergency Management team and response agencies are working to manage the effects of heavy rain over the long weekend in the Havelock, Rai Valley, Pelorus Bridge and Canvastown areas.
SH6 will remain closed at Dalton’s Bridge until 10.30am this morning and then reopen under controlled access.
Marlborough Roads Area Manager Wayne Oldfield said he is taking a precautionary approach in case the flooding had undermined the road.
“We’ll let drivers through under single file and convoy from 10.30am. Hopefully - if there is no road damage - we can reopen SH6 fully by midday.”
“Kaiuma Bay Road and Te Hoiere Road will also stay closed for now.”
Other closed roads in include Northbank Road at Bartlett’s Creek (see image attached).

“Please follow road closure signage and guidance from Marlborough Roads’ contractors, for your safety and the safety of others,” Mr Oldfield said.
“Do not attempt to drive through floodwater.”
