Photography pop up latest Space Create initiative

An exhibition highlighting Blenheim photographer Anthony Phelps’ recent work opens today, part of Council’s Space Create initiative designed to entice more visitors into the town centre.

The photography pop-up will run for the next month at 71 Queen Street, thanks to Harcourts Marlborough making the vacant space available.

Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Manager Nicola Neilson said Phelps had been a photographer all his career, mostly in news media, sports, and corporate public relations around the world, before settling in Blenheim 15 years ago.

“The exhibition showcases spectacular photos of Marlborough as well as an eclectic mix of images from his two books ‘From AK79 to the Class of 81’ about Auckland punk bands and ‘September 12, the third and final protest of the 1981 Springbok Tour’,” Mrs Neilson said.

All works are signed and available for purchase.

Mrs Neilson said it was great to see Space Create taking off with several exhibitions and community-led creative initiatives currently underway in central Blenheim.

“This a great time to visit our town centre to see the Space Create installations but also to show support for our local businesses and check out how the Market Street Revamp is shaping up,” she said.
