Environment awards to launch
Marlborough adventure racer Sophie Hart headlines the 2026/27 Port Marlborough - Marlborough Environment Awards launch next month.
Fresh from breaking the record in the legendary Yukon 1000, widely regarded as one of the world’s toughest endurance events, Sophie will share her remarkable story behind one of the world's toughest endurance races.
She will speak at the awards evening, at 5.30pm on Thursday 10 September at the Vinarchy Function Centre at Riverlands.
Sophie and fellow adventure racing legend Nathan Fa'avae recently completed the world's longest kayak and canoe race, a gruelling 1,600km journey from Canada to Alaska, in an astonishing five days, 11 hours and three minutes, breaking the race record by 45 minutes.
The challenges of competing in such an unforgiving environment and lessons learned about perseverance, teamwork and the natural world will be main topics of her talk.
Following Sophie's presentation, the 2026/27 Port Marlborough - Marlborough Environment Awards will be officially launched, outlining what's ahead, key dates and to get involved.
