New shade sails at local parks
New shade sails have been installed over the play equipment at Mark Smith Reserve and Awarua Park.
Mark Smith Reserve is a small neighbourhood playground on Turnbull Drive, off Taylor Pass Road, and features farm-themed play equipment, including a tractor. Equipment was repurposed from the original Pollard Park play equipment during its 2019 redevelopment.
The reserve is named after Mark Smith who managed the Wither Hills Farm Park for many years under lease from Council.
Awarua Park has also had shade sails installed over its new playground installation which includes new play pieces.
The sails and some of the play equipment is black and white paying homage to the black and white hoops of Moutere Rugby.
The shade sails projects were funded through the Land Subdivision Account which is funded by levies charged to developers for reserves and community facilities.
Two new floodlights were also installed over the tennis courts replacing the old and damaged poles. These were funded through the repairs and maintenance budget.
