Clip it before the wind grips it

With windy weather expected, Council is encouraging residents to pick up a free pair of bin clips to keep rubbish and recycling where it belongs.

Strong gusts can easily flip bin lids open or tip bins over, scattering rubbish across streets, footpaths and waterways. A bin clip keeps the lid firmly shut, so your bin stays closed even when the wind picks up. Only one clip per bin is required.

Free bin clips are available from the Council office on Seymour Street in Blenheim and Picton Library and Service Centre. They're quick to fit and work with standard Council wheelie bins.

Residents are asked to use bin clips rather than bungee cords, which can cause problems when bins are emptied. Please keep your bins away from power poles and fences and bring them in as soon as possible on windy days.

If your neighbour won’t be home until late, help them out by collecting their bin too.

Bin clips were not available when wheelie bins were introduced in 2024. Going forward, each new bin will come with a clip.
